Common Road Roller Problems — Causes & Solutions
⚠️ Road Roller Vibration Not Working
Drum spins but no vibration felt on ground. Machine compacting but density test failing. Most critical issue in highway and airport runway projects.
Root causes: Failed eccentric bearing (most common — bearing seizure stops eccentric mass rotation), hydraulic motor failure (no pressure reaching vibration motor), solenoid valve stuck, or broken exciter shaft.
⚠️ Water Spray Not Working
Drum surface overheating, asphalt sticking to drum, or water not spraying evenly. Critical issue in summer road laying operations across Rajasthan, Gujarat, MP.
Root causes: Blocked spray nozzle (mineral deposits), failed water pump, float switch failure (tank reads empty when full), or cracked spray pipe.
⚠️ Road Roller Not Moving / Drive Loss
Engine running but machine won't travel — or travels only in one direction. Common in Dynapac CA and Bomag BW machines after long operation.
Root causes: Hydraulic travel motor failure, hydrostatic pump wear, charge pressure loss, or control valve malfunction. Check hydraulic oil level and pressure first.
