The Caterpillar 320 series is one of the most extensively deployed medium excavators in the world's construction and mining sectors. However, the CAT 320 spans four distinct generations — 320, 320B, 320C, 320D, and 320D2 — with different engine platforms, hydraulic configurations, and part numbering across each generation. Ordering without specifying your generation is the single most common purchasing mistake. Also see our CAT 330 parts page and Komatsu PC200 parts for fleet consolidation. Buyers running mixed fleets with Komatsu PC200, JCB 3DX, or Volvo EC210 can consolidate all brands in one shipment.
CAT 320 (1994–2001) used the 3066 engine. Fleet operators running both CAT and Komatsu should see our Komatsu PC200 parts page — both brands can be consolidated in one shipment. CAT 320 (1994–2001) used the 3066 engine; 320C (2001–2007) continued with 3066; 320D (2007–2013) introduced the C6.4 ACERT engine; 320D2 (2013–present) uses an updated C4.4 engine. Engine overhaul kits are not interchangeable between generations. The 3066 overhaul kit includes different liner dimensions and piston ring sets compared to the C6.4 kit. Specifying engine serial number — stamped on the engine block — eliminates all ambiguity.
For hydraulic components, the CAT 320D main pump is a variable displacement axial piston pump with an integrated swing pump. The complete pump assembly is a capital item (USD 1,800–2,400); the seal kit (USD 110–145) is the most common service item and can extend pump life by 2,000–3,000 operating hours when replaced proactively. We strongly recommend seal kit replacement at first sign of hydraulic drift rather than waiting for full pump failure.
CAT 320 undercarriage wears particularly fast in mining and quarry applications. Saudi Arabia buyers should see our Saudi Arabia export guide for GCC customs documentation, VAT 15% calculations, and heat-rated parts recommendations for Gulf quarry conditions. For machines running more than 1,500 hours per year, we recommend Salt-Bath Carburised (SBC) track links which offer 30–40% longer service life versus standard links. Our exports to Saudi Arabia and Qatar frequently specify SBC links for quarry applications.
Check the machine serial number plate on the right-hand access panel. Serial number prefix identifies the generation: 320D is prefix "CAT0320D". Always provide engine serial number separately for overhaul kits — stamped on the engine block near the oil filter.
The most cost-effective maintenance approach for CAT 320D hydraulic systems: main pump seal kit + boom cylinder seal kit + arm cylinder seal kit replaced together during a single shutdown. This 8–10 hour procedure covers the three highest-leak-risk components and typically costs USD 280–380 in parts.
Saudi Arabia and UAE require a certificate of origin and HS code documentation for customs clearance. We provide APEDA-certified COO and include all necessary HSN codes on the commercial invoice. Pre-shipment inspection certificates available on request.
Every Pioneer Mitra export includes a full customs-clearance document set. Verified against your LC or T/T terms before dispatch.

CAT 320D operators frequently over-specify — ordering a USD 1,800+ pump when a USD 110–145 seal kit would have fixed the issue. This guide identifies which symptom requires which action.
| Service Item | Interval | Cost (FOB India) |
|---|---|---|
| Cylinder seal kits (boom/arm/bucket) | At first sign of rod weeping | USD 60–145 each |
| Main pump seal kit | Every 4,000 hrs (proactive) | USD 110–145 |
| Hydraulic filter (return) | Every 500 hrs | USD 28–40 |
| Main pump replacement | At failure or 10,000+ hrs | USD 1,800–2,400 |
| Full hydraulic oil analysis | Every 2,000 hrs | Contact lab |
Service intervals are indicative for normal operating conditions. High-temperature, high-duty-cycle, or abrasive environments require earlier inspection. Contact us with machine hours and symptoms for specific advice.
